Finding purpose in your work.

Ultimately, to feel fulfilled in our work, we need a sense of purpose.

The more I listen. The more I learn. The more I believe this to be true 100% true.

Purpose looks different for everyone. There is no perfect job, but it’s possible to find some sort of meaning in how we spend our days.

Over the years, I’ve struggled to find purpose in a job that focused on making and selling “more”. Of course, that’s business - I get it. But it ate me up.

My creativity dwindled, and I felt like my ideas had reached their peak. Which is crazy, I thought. How can you peak as a creative?

But I didn’t peak. I just wanted to pivot. I wanted to flex different muscles. I felt like my creativity needed room to breathe.

Really, I think I was eager for a change and to find a way to integrate helping others with my love for design.

I’m still figuring out what that means or looks like. My path has certainly not been linear.

If finding purpose in your work means pursuing a non-linear path - that’s ok. Not everyone has a linear path. And I think that’s pretty cool.

I used to spend hours behind a computer unhappy with how I was spending my time.

It’s just not worth it.

It will be uncomfortable for a bit. Your salary might change. You might need to adjust your lifestyle, change your spending habits, and shift your mindset around money.

But persistence will lead to results - I’m still on the uncomfortable train. It’s hard, but I know it’s part of the process.

If something interests you, learn more about it. Be curious, and take calculated risks.
